Member representing Ipokia/Idiroko Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Oyedele, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to lift the ban on the supply of petroleum products to communities within 20 kilometres of Nigeria’s borders.
Hon Oyedele, fondly called Citiside, described the restriction as outdated and unjust, noting that it has caused severe hardship for residents of Ogun West despite the removal of fuel subsidies.
The lawmaker made the appeal today during the commissioning of constituency projects across Ipokia Local Government, including renovated health centres, classroom blocks, and motorised boreholes.
He recalled that the policy, introduced in 2019 by the Federal Government to curb smuggling, has instead punished law-abiding citizens who depend on fuel for their daily activities.
Hon Oyedele also urged the Federal and State Governments to revive the abandoned Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia, and prioritise the proposed Ipokia–Badagry Link Bridge, describing it as an economic lifeline that would boost trade and connectivity in the region.
He commended Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola for their support and leadership, while traditional rulers and residents lauded Oyedele’s developmental efforts in the constituency.
