Kwara State’s Integrated Water System has received international recognition at the 2025 World Water Cities Forum held in the Republic of Korea, the state government has announced.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Adamu Saidu, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Lade, disclosed this while presenting his report from the global summit.
Hon Lade, who represented Kwara State at the conference, said the state’s presentation stood out among those of other participating countries.
He noted that Korea, which is globally recognised for its advanced water technology, provided an ideal platform for the exchange of innovative ideas and solutions in the water sector.
He explained that Kwara showcased its newly constructed three-way Integrated Water System located at Otte/Budo-Egba in Asa Local Government Area.
The project was recently commissioned as part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s broader reforms in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector.
According to the commissioner, the model attracted global attention as a practical and sustainable solution for rural and water-scarce communities.
He added that the presentation highlighted the state’s progress in expanding access to clean and reliable water supply in line with the administration’s commitment to public health and sustainable development.
Hon Lade also disclosed that he participated in a fireside chat during the Korea International Water Week, where discussions focused on the role of WASH in promoting safe, healthy and sustainable community development.
He stressed that clean water, sanitation and hygiene remain critical to improving the quality of life across the state.
As part of activities during the Korea International Water Week, the Kwara delegation visited the Korea Water Cluster, toured innovation centres and engaged with engineers and experts utilising test beds to support emerging water technologies.
The team also visited six major water companies in Daegu to understudy modern systems that could support future innovations and attract investment to Kwara State.
The commissioner said Kwara’s participation in the 2025 World Water Cities Forum underscores the state government’s commitment to aligning with global best practices.
He cited the ongoing rehabilitation of major waterworks, expansion of water infrastructure and sustained efforts to improve access to safe water in both urban and rural communities.
Hon Lade reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to build strategic partnerships aimed at delivering clean and accessible water to all communities in Kwara State, noting that the forum brought together policymakers, water professionals, investors and global leaders in the WASH sector.
