Muslims have been cautioned against Fidau commercialization to save them from incurring Allah’s wrath on earth and hereafter.
Islamic Scholar, Dr Gambari Khalid gave the caution while delivering a lecture on the topic ” Principles And Practice Of Fidau In Islam” at the ongoing Ramadan Lecture Series organized by Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria, IMAN in Ilorin.
Dr Khalid who is of the Department of Islamic, Christian and Comparative Religious Studies, Kwara State University, Malete, noted that fund raising for selfish interest when the bereaved are mourning is extremely contrary to general principles of Islam.
He said Islam values charity, building of Mosques, provision of water and other humanitarian services as rewarding in the sight of Allah than organizing a social gathering.
The Don also submitted that all days should be utilized to offer prayers for departed Muslims instead of picking a day for a Fidau prayer with no basis in Islamic Literature and reminded Muslims to prepare for death with strong piety.
Dr Khalid maintained that open Fidau is permissible provided it does not contravene Allah’s injunctions and expressed the belief that the prayers offered in organized Fidau are beneficial to the departed souls.
The Guest Lecturer who chronicled the processes of death and Janazah as contained in the Qur’an and Hadith, charged Muslim faithful to rekindle their spiritual lives to earn Allah’s favour in the day of reckoning.
Meanwhile, the lecture continues today with the topic ” Moral Degeneration In Our Society: The Islamic Recipe” to be delivered by National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations, NACOMYO at IMAN Centre New Yidi Road, Ilorin beginning at half past four in the evening.
