Oloro-in-Council, alongside the people of Oro Kingdom in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has halted a planned Ogboni meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday) in the ancient town, citing security concerns.
In a statement issued on behalf of the council by the Esa of Oro Kingdom, Oloye Samuel Taiye Otunola, the traditional authority warned that such a gathering could worsen the already fragile security situation in Kwara South and should not proceed under any circumstances.
The Oloro-in-council further disclosed that both the Kwara State Government and the Kwara State Police Command oppose the proposed gathering at this time, given prevailing security challenges in the senatorial district.
The statement also noted that the Ogboni Worldwide body, under the umbrella of the Aborigine Traditional Association Inc., has formally distanced itself from the planned meeting in a letter addressed to the Oloro of Oro Kingdom where the association stated that it is not aware of the event and does not recognise the purported organiser.
The statement therefore urged all individuals planning to attend the gathering to desist immediately, warning that security operatives have been deployed to enforce the directive and will arrest anyone who violates the order.
The Oloro-in-Council reassured residents of Oro Kingdom of their safety, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across the community.
