Ilorin-based Community Health Practitioner, Aderibigbe Adewale has cautioned practitioners against irrational handling of deliveries and new borns to guard against unforseen circumstances.
Mr.Adewale gave the caution today while delivering a lecture at Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme organized by Community Health Institute in collaboration with Community Health Registration Board of Nigeria CHPRBN and Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria ACHPN held at FOMWAN Hall, Ilorin.
The Guest Lecturer who of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, charged them to position the mother for breastfeeding of the new born as no condition should separate mother from the child.
He described Nigeria as a country with highest number morternal and mortality rates, citing materia as a major cause.
The Public Health Educator tasked the participants to be meticulous in the handling of patients to forestall complications and observed that the number Community Health workers in Nigeria is below the global standard.
Mr Adewale noted that the low number of Community Health Practitioners is reflected in the statistical analysis of 48.6 health workers per 10,000 people in the Country.
He charged practitioners to strictly adhere to National Standing Orders of the profession to achieve desired results.
Also Speaking, Community Health Physician, Doctor Muhammad Nurudeen asked the practitioners to always calm, confident and decisive while responding to emergencies.
Dr Nurudeen counseled them to eschew unnecessary pressure while attending to patients to avoid preventable casualties.
In her remark, Director, Community Health Institute, Abuja, Dr Riskat Motunrayo Onawola charged practitioners to update their knowledge inline with new trends.
Dr Onawola urged them to acquire relevant academic and professional qualifications to propel them to top echelon of the calling.
In her submission, Hajia Ibrahim Motunrayo Oniyere challenged the practitioners to committed in the discharge of their duties.
Hajia Motunrayo Oniyere stated that their dedication to work would enable them meet up with new policies being formulated in favour of Community Health Practitioners.
