Ilorin-based Islamic Scholar, Mallam Abdulhamid Jimba has slammed the spate of unfulfilled electioneering campaign promises among politicians in Nigeria.
Mallam Jimba made the condemnation while presenting a paper titled ” Fulfilling Political Electioneering Campaign Promises By Politicians: Nigeria As a Case Study” at the ongoing Ramadan Lecture Series organized by Islamic Missionaries Association of Nigeria IMAN in Ilorin.
Mallam Jimba pointed out the fulfilling promises is not optional but obligatory as failure to fill the promises is a moral disease punishable before Allah.
He identified deception, corruption, incapacitation, selfish interest and weak accountability as deliberate factors contributing to unabated broken promises among Nigerian political officeholders.
According to him, moral and religions consequences are ethical implications of unfulfilled promises as erosion of public trust normalization dishonesty, weakened democratic culture.
He therefore therefore charged political officeholders to to always redeem their campaign promises to the people to protect them from incurring Allah’s wrath.
In his remark, Chairman of the Occasion and Former Chief Press Secretary to the Governor in the state, Alhaji Mashood Adebimpe expressed deep concern over political officeholders misdemeanor and urged them to turn a new leaf of responding to the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
